Larval Fish Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Different Ecological Guilds in Yangtze Estuary

چکیده

Estuaries, as important fish nursery habitats, usually include a variety of larval fishes different ecological guilds and exhibit complicated changing environmental conditions. We carried out survey to examine the spatiotemporal dynamics guild their relationships with factors in springs summers from 2018 2020 Yangtze Estuary (China). The aims study were provide detailed information on characteristics assemblage explore variation species effects variables structure. More than 140,000 larvae 26 families 99 gathered during six cruises, spring being most prolific. was dominated by few divided into three guilds. Engraulidae abundant family, followed Cyprinidae Gobiidae. Hemiculter bleekeri (freshwater), Pseudolaubuca sinensis Coilia mystus (brackish water), Engraulis japonicas (marine) predominant species. Seasonal variations structure closely influenced temperature, fluctuation salinity mainly determined spatial distribution community. Freshwater flows also played an role shaping dynamics. conclusions improve understanding assemblages environmentally heterogeneous areas may be applicable other estuary ecosystems.

Composition of functional ecological guilds of the fish fauna of the internal sector of the Amazon Estuary, Pará, Brazil.

The present study describes the spatial and temporal structure of the estuarine fish community in the internal sector of the Amazon Estuary. Samples were obtained in the main channels and tidal creeks of Guajará and Marajó Bays and Guamá River. A total of 41,516 fish specimens were collected, representing 136 taxa, 38 families and 12 orders. In the dry season, the mean salinity of the main chan...

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Vibrio spp. within the Sydney Harbour Estuary

Vibrio are a genus of marine bacteria that have substantial environmental and human health importance, and there is evidence that their impact may be increasing as a consequence of changing environmental conditions. We investigated the abundance and composition of the Vibrio community within the Sydney Harbour estuary, one of the most densely populated coastal areas in Australia, and a region c...

Community dynamics and activity of ammonia-oxidizing prokaryotes in intertidal sediments of the Yangtze estuary.

Diversity, abundance, and activity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) were investigated using the ammonia monooxygenase α subunit (amoA) in the intertidal sediments of the Yangtze Estuary. Generally, AOB had a lower diversity of amoA genes than did AOA in this study. Clone library analysis revealed great spatial variations in both AOB and AOA communities alo...

Endogenous Activity Rhythms of Larval Fish Assemblages in a Mangrove- fringed Estuary in North Brazil

In Caeté Estuary, the decrease of larval abundance downstream was attributed to reduced retention, since ebb tide densities prevailed mainly in the middle and lower estuary during the rainy season due to increased freshwater outflow. Anchovia clupeoides, Stellifer microps and Guavina guavina were most abundant in the late dry season on flood tides in the upper estuary, whereas ebb tide densitie...

Life history trade-offs assemble ecological guilds.

Ecological theory predicts that competition for a limiting resource will lead to the exclusion of species unless the within-species effects outweigh the between-species effects. Understanding how multiple competitors might coexist on a single resource has focused on the prescriptive formalism of a necessary niche width and limiting similarity. Here, we show how continuously varying life histori...
